Wisdom Nest Primary School Land Purchase Support Appeal

Wisdom Nest Primary School needs to buy land. Wisdom Nest Primary School needs your support to purchase land. The school needs land in order to develop institutional infrastructure.

Wisdom Nest Primary School operates from two rented premises which cost the school Kenya shillings 25,500 per month. The school provides education to needy children from Soweto slums in Nairobi Kenya.

Most of our students are not able to pay fees. This monthly rent is a huge loss, which is affecting academic performance. This is because there are no adequate funds left to buy Learning materials, pay teachers, and buy school equipment and school land.

Wisdom Nest Primary school’s main need now is to purchase land

The school proposes to build a sanitation facility, office block, kitchen, library, and eleven classrooms once the land has been bought

The cost of land in Soweto slums in 2014

A (25 x 70) square feet plot costs between Kenya shillings 1,450,000 depending on location. The school needs at least 3 plots of the said size.

a) Sanitation Facilities:

The school has an acute shortage of sanitation facilities and this is the main reason a school plot should be acquired urgently. There are only two functional pit latrines for a population of 400 students and 13 teachers. The school needs to build at least 8 pit latrines to solve this problem. This can only be done if it has its own land.

b) Spacious Classrooms:

Currently Wisdom Nest Primary school is using small rooms (10x 10) square feet as classroom space resulting in student congestion which is unhealthy. Some classes may have more than 30 students. The School needs 11 classrooms of at least (20 x 20) square feet each to ease congestion.

c) Instructional Materials:

Acquiring texts books, writing materials, pens, library books, computers and other learning materials is a challenge to the school due to lack of adequate funds. The school performance in academics is seriously hampered by lack of instructional materials. Parents aren’t able to purchase text books and exercise books for their children either.
After 10 years of existent, the school has received some funds, from the government of Kenya this March, to buy learning materials though the funds are not enough.

d) Wisdom Nest Primary school runs a Feeding Program:

We need a kitchen for our lunch feeding program. We have already identified both a corporate institution and an N.G.O willing to donate foodstuffs once we have a proper kitchen and adequate water storage facility. The current program is very small (catering for 50 students only) and the number of students who need it is large, i.e., more than 200. To keep hungry children in school, a bigger feeding program is needed. Acquiring a properly constructed kitchen and kitchen equipment is a challenge.
